Odisha is a hot spot for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Tourists can see thousands of birds descending during the migratory season in the World-famous Nalabana in Chilika. They can also have the alluring view of the most beautiful local inhabitants.
Nalbana Bird Sanctuary – Situated on the core area of designated wetlands of Chilika Lake, the Nalbana Island was announced as a bird sanctuary in year 1972 under the Wildlife Protection Act. Here, visitors can see thousands of birds migrating here including coots, moorhens, jacanas, night herons, teals, pintails, rollers, kingfishers, geese, brahminy ducks and more.
Mangalajodi Bird Sanctuary – Situated at the northern edge of Chilika Lake, the wetlands allure thousands of migratory birds from far off places. Supposed to be hosting over 1.5 lakhs of birds during the peak time, it is worth to visit to. Due to its significant global wetland habitat, it has been even declared as an International Bird Conservation Area.
Bhitarkanika – It is a well known and highly visited bird sanctuary in Odisha. Supposed to be hosting India’s largest heronry and also been referred to as mini Amazon of Asia, the bird sanctuary has over 271 species that can be spot on including Indian Pitta, Pintails, Geese, Ducks, Vultures, Eagles, and so much more.
