Bhitarkanika National Park spreads over 672 sqkm in eastern Odisha’s Kendrapara district. Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary has always been tourists’ love for its natural beauty and salt water crocodile. Green mangroves, the estuarine crocodiles and the tranquil surrounding intercepted by birds’ chirping enthral tourists.
Bhitarkanika’s diverse flora and fauna also makes its a unique place of tourists’ importance and of course, its picturesque.
GAHIRMATHA: Gahirmatha beach separates the Bhitarkanika mangroves from the Bay of Bengal and is the world's most important nesting beach for Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. The beach is part of Gahirmatha Marine Wildlife Sanctuary, which also includes the adjacent portion of the Bay of Bengal. The spectacular site of mass congregation of Olive Ridley sea turtles for mating and nesting enthralls both the scientists and the nature lovers throughout the world. Gahirmatha is the only marine wildlife sanctuary of Odisha. The total area of the sanctuary is more than 1400 square km. Olive Ridley sea turtles migrate in huge numbers from the beginning of November, every year, for mating and nesting along the coast of Odisha.
